To what extent is WorkAble of interest to scientists?

  • Academically, the WorkAble project is set to make a significant contribution to developing new theoretical and empirical tools to study capability provision through local providers in specific educational regimes from comparative perspectives.
  • The project will contribute to standardisation of the databases, the transferability of single national good practices and experiences, and the comparability of scientific instruments and methods.
  • The project will build on and expand the state of the art in educational, economic, sociological and political theories and remain both flexible and broad in scope, while, at the same time, laying the foundation for solving concrete problems by enhancing opportunities for and developing the capabilities of young people.
  • The WorkAble project will go beyond the state of the art in research on the European nexus of general and vocational skill formation institutions by analysing three levels on which the capabilities of young people to live in and shape the knowledge society are determined: 1. educational system and policymakers; 2. providers of education and training; 3. young people themselves.
  • The rigorously comparative approach taken by the WorkAble project will enable researchers both to clarify the impact of local, regional and national contexts and to create a new, wide-ranging theoretical understanding of the conditions for the functioning of educational and welfare systems throughout Europe.
  • The research conducted by WorkAble will improve understanding of the role of capabilities in relation to employment, competitiveness and growth in Europe as well as in relation to deliberative participation, social inclusion and individual flourishing.
